Command Controller, May 2023-Current
The primary role for Command Controllers is to help the Mission Operations team with their day to day operations consisting of the following activities:- Real time on-console anomaly troubleshooting
- Code Database Maintenance
- Software Script Creation
- Script Verifications and checks
- Plot and Data point checking
- Weekly Satellite Schedule Planning
While at LASP I was able to help support the following Primary Operations Missions
- Magnetospheric Multiscale Mission (MMS)
- Aeronomy of Ice in the Mesosphere (AIM)
- Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE)
- Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP)
- Global-scale Observations of the Limb and Disk Instrument (GOLD)
- Extreme Ultraviolet Variability Experiment (EVE)
My Primary Missions Operations Work
My Cubesat Mission Operations Work
My Project Management Work
A large portion of my Mission Operations work was for Smallsat Mission Operations. A subgroup of mission operations dedicated to managing suitcase and smaller sized satellites for a minimal budget, and therefore has a less robust system of checks and process. Because of the unique nature of these missions, a single Smallsat operator can have significant influence and control over their mission/satellite(s).
The daily functions include:
- Real time on-console anomaly troubleshooting
- Code Database Maintenance
- Advanced Software Script Creation
- Satellite Procedure Creation
- Satellite Testing
- Script Verifications and checks
- Plot and Data point checking
- Weekly Satellite Schedule Planning
- Real time Satellite Commanding
- Maintain UHF and S-Band Ground Station
Some of my most notable contributions to the Cubesat Operations Team have been
- Revamp and Transition the entire Smallsat Developer Base to use Docker based developmental environments.
- Transition backend Cubesat IT Infrastructure to newer more robust Virtual Machine Network
- Develop the framework for a reusable codebase and set of processes for Small Satellite Operation
- Transition Cubesat Codebase from Python 3.6 to 3.11
- Redevelop Cubesat Mission Ops Trainings and Onboarding Materials/Processes
One of my passions and driving motivators has always been leadership, project management, and systems engineering. Below I have highlighted a few of the projects I have advocated for and worked to organize while at LASP.
Advocating for and working to organize a LASP-wide multi-year strategic planning review for LASP and its interests with Cubists
Advocating for and working to revamp LASP's Project Management Software and Processes
- Submitted Internal Research and Development Grant Request for additional JIRA-based project management software
- Built documentation on how to use existing project management software
